YDAS 'Rights to Reality' project survey

About the Rights to Reality Project

As a disabled young person, it can be hard to understand your rights.

The Youth Disability Advocacy Service’s 'Rights to Reality' project aims to increase disabled young people’s understanding of your rights through information sessions designed for and by disabled young people in Melbourne.

Your responses to this survey will help us understand your experiences and ensure the information sessions that are designed meet the needs of disabled young people who live, work, study, or visit Melbourne.

By completing this survey, you will go in the draw to win one of 3x $100 gift vouchers.

You can take part in this survey if you are 12 to 25 years old, live in Victoria, and identify as:

  • Having a disability, health condition, or chronic illness

  • Neurodiverse or autistic

  • Deaf, deaf or hard of hearing

  • Blind or vision impaired

  • Having lived experience of mental health issues.

Survey closes at 5pm on Friday 17 May 2024. It may take 5 to 15 minutes to complete.

Content warning: This survey asks about times when you stood up for your rights. You do not have to answer. If you need support, we have included a list of organisations that can help at the end of the survey.

This is optional. You do not need to provide your contact details to complete the survey.

The next questions help us understand the intersectional lived experiences of disabled young people. You do not have to answer them.

These questions are about human rights and how confident you feel about knowing your rights.

Everyone has rights. Rights help ensure you are safe and are being treated fairly. Disabled young people have the same rights as everyone else. For example, you have a right to get an education, have a job where you feel safe and valued, and have a safe place to live. These are just some of the many rights you have.
‘Reasonable adjustments’ means making changes so that disabled people can go to school or work like everyone else. This can mean things like making documents easier to read, flexible work hours, or building a ramp for a wheelchair user.

The next questions are about your rights and when you have had to speak up. Your answers help us understand the experiences of disabled young people and will ensure the information sessions created are relevant to disabled young people. You do not have to share anything you do not want to.

We are only asking for the place the event/s occurred, not specific details of the event/s

The next 3 questions are optional, but you will need to share this if you want to go in the draw to win a gift card and/or stay up to date with the project.

Thank you for completing the survey. Your responses will help us create information sessions that support disabled young people to learn about, access, and speak up for their rights.
